Beddawi

I love embroidery, my sister in law taught me how to sew and I used to steal her unfinished products and try to complete them. Tatreez is an art by itself. I like to be creative when I embroider, mixing everything together. I literally break the rules when it comes to this art.

Tatreez Design gave me my freedom and my personality back. Now I feel more confident. I used to fear my future, but now I don’t. Everything has changed when I started selling my products, my family finally started listening to me and I regained my freedom of speech. I want to see Tatreez Design products in every country in the world.

"Tatreez gave me my freedom and my personality back."

My name is Duaa Korayni, I am 20 years old and I am Palestinian Syrian living in Damascus, living in the Beddawi camp since 5 years ago.

I spend my free time learning English and taking training in using the computer. Also embroidery was a hobby first then I started liking it more and more until I made it my profession.

I like Tatreez project a lot because it is offering us a good financial support and many more activities.

Embroidery was a hobby first then I started liking it more and more until I made it my profession.

My name is Lina El-Hajj, I am 42 years old from Bouzye, Safad in Palestine. I am married with 4 kids, all boys. The eldest is married, two finished school and work and the youngest one is still in school.
I spend my free time visiting my friends and walking on the beach and sometimes I finish embroidery work.
I learned embroidery when I was 10 years old with my neighbors.
I love embroidery because it is our tradition and I love the colors and the patterns.

My name is Zeinab Awad from Palestine, I am 26 years old, I am married since I was 22 years old, I have a girl 9 months old and a boy 2 years old, so I barely have any free time, but when I do find some spare time I like to practice embroidery because I love it, I love the art behind tatreez and to know that I am spreading the tradition of our country. I love mostly the white dresses with bright embroidery patterns.
Tatreez has offered us a nice place to work all together between women and a nice financial support.
I hope Tatreez will organize more activities, like a trip somewhere to change our routine so we can have fun.

My name is Nadia el Freij, I am 38 years old, I am divorced and I have 4 kids. The eldest is 10 years old and the youngest is 3 years and they all go to school except the youngest. I barely have any free time between taking care of them and the house. If I ever find time I do sewing and embroidery. I usually sew clothes for my neighbors and friends. I learned embroidery here in the camp Loutfie taught me, and through the years now I can teach.
I like to work on small dresses for little kids mostly under 10 years old.
Tatreez offered a nice financial support but I more like about Tatreez is that I got to know a lot of new women that I can call friends now.
I hope we get more training programs with Tatreez Design, for sewing and arts.

My name is Mounia, I am 30 years old. I have four children: one boy and three girls. I am from Beddawi camp but I live in Ebbe, in Tripoli. I was 8 years old when I started to make tatreez. I learned by looking at my mother when I was young. After observing, I took a small piece myself and tried to make tatreez. My mother didn’t teach me the tatreez, I learned alone. I prefer to make small pieces instead of big ones.

What I like in the project is that I can show my tradition from my home. I want to say that the women can be productive from her home, not only from behind a desk, even if she hasn’t received an education. Even if I am a married woman and a housewife with children, I can make a salary and be independent. For me, Tatreez Design is a way to express this message.

I would like that Tatreez Design spread to others countries and not be limited to one country, so that everyone can know our tradition and what women are able to do from their home. I want to teach tatreez to my daughters when they grow up a little. My girls watch me the same way I used to my mother. I work early in the morning, before my kids wake up and at night, when they sleep. During the day, I am too busy to make Tatreez.

I am never been to Palestine, I only saw pictures but my mother went to Palestine.

My name is Hanadi, I am 46 years old. I am from Beirut but I live in Tripoli. I am Lebanese. I am widowed since two years and I have one girl and one boy. I was teaching crochet in Beddawi camp, in Women Program Association, when I heard about Tatreez Design and decided to join.

I like everything which is handmade. I have this passion. I am working in a shop which sells crochet, accessories and handmade things. I started to learn tatreez three years ago but I practice crochet since 25 years. I like challenging myself and I like hard work.

I hope that Tatreez design expands its limits and I want that our work becomes famous. I am feeling comfortable in Tatreez Design, everybody is good and humble. I like everything in the association and especially the people with who I am working.

My name is Fatimah Nawfal I am 38 years old married with 3 children all going to school. I spend my free time in the evening with embroidery since the day will be full of chores and barely anytime.
I love sewing and I studied it before embroidery, and when I heard there was a project for ladies here in the camp I applied to enroll with you in order to support my financial situation.
I hope Tatreez will get us more work, and more activities to do together.
