My name is Itaf Youssef Suleiman, I am a 40 years old Palestinian married woman, I live in Burj al Shamali Camp and originally I come from El-Houl District from Al-Koura Al-Sabaa’.

I taught myself embroidery when it first caught my eye in school when older girls used to do it. I kept peeking at how each stitch is made until they started giving me simple things to try and train on, like a simple line then a zigzag then a flower and so on! After that I started getting books and started to learn more until I was attending embroidery and sewing workshops.

I spend most of my free time doing things with my hands I love handicrafts and I also teach kids embroidery, I love seeing the tradition of my country passed on to new generations to keep it alive. This is what I love about embroidery, it kept us in touch with our Palestinian Tradition and made us learn more and pass it on.

Tatreez opened for me a lot of new doors and new opportunities to be able to support myself and my family and help as much as possible, I met a lot of new girls that I can call friends now, and it offered a place for us to socialize and meet and get to know people who live in a different parts of Lebanon but share a lot of common points.

I hope one day I will be able to have my ow showroom and my own embroidery school, to expose and teach our tradition.
